Never enough! |
I made a monumental decision...I'm cutting and including some of the fabrics I thought I might never cut. I wish I had yards of this fabric.
What better reason than to include a beloved fabric in a quilt for a special person?
Snip - snip ... after all, it's just fabric!
Marked, in the frame ready for quilting |
We are expecting our first snow this week.
Yesterday I marked a quilt and got it in the frame.
I will have all the outline quilting done by the time the graduation project is a top - so I think my timeline is still OK. I can only hand quilt or machine piece so much in one day. Rotation is a good thing!
I have marked for years with General's Sketch N Wash pencils - have never had trouble with it coming off when the project is done. It is usually all gone by the time the quilt is finished.
Happy Stitching,
Dawn
Oh, such gorgeous fabric!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link on the pencils. I have purchased them once before at a quilt shop out of town, but thought my local Jo~Ann didn't carry them. I never thought to look in the art department (a "duh" moment here). The link said my local store has them in stock. : )
So true. Those fabrics that are hard to cut into are the perfect fabrics for a special person.:)
ReplyDeleteI think we all save certain fabrics, but glad you snipped into it. It was snowing a little bit here already, mostly sleet, and the sky is clearing to the north, which can mean super cold temps! Stay warm and happy quilting.
ReplyDeleteI agree that is a beautiful piece of fabric but what good is it if you can’t use it for something special.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE that fabric - I can totally understand why you would be saving it for something very special, but in the end it's better to use it and enjoy it in the finished piece than to hoard it (I'm trying to convince myself.... :) ).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics. Weather in the 70's today and artic blast on its way with a drop of 30 degrees tomorrow. Great quilting weather
ReplyDeleteI feel for you cutting in to that fabric - so beautiful - but what better use than in this special quilt! Thanks for the tip with the pencils - I am keen to give them a go too - always great to have a recommendation :) I just love that quilting sketch...sigh.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with those pencils for marking. I pinned a link so I can try to remember about them.
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of General's Sketch N Wash pencils, too. Great product. I love your quilting design.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabric! I can see why you are hesitant to cut in to it. Good to use it though - they are always making more fabric! Did you do those markings freehand?
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is really special. Lovely and red!!!
ReplyDeleteoohhh, I love that fabric, wow
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of these pencils, they look great.
Lovely feathers -
sorry to hear about the snow - time for hand quilting - enjoy!
Love that fabric! Ok, I'm off to look up these pencils you like. Always open for a good pencil for marking.
ReplyDeleteThe red fabric is rich and gorgeous. It would be hard to snip, but I think you are wise to put it to use. I think, I shall try those pencils next time I do hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteOh can't wait to see what this gorgeous fabric will become! Anticipation is such a fun feeling ;^) Are you hand quilting or machine quilting the one you've just marked? Enjoy!
ReplyDelete"Just fabric"!? GAAAAAA!!!!! Just kidding - I have several of those fabrics that I don't want to use up! I just used General's Sketch & Wash to mark vines and stems on some wool applique blocks - works great!
ReplyDeleteI love that fabric! Glad you are using it. We are expecting our first snow too!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful yardage! Always in search of good marking pencils - will check out the General's....here in northern Wisconsin we are getting heavy snow - into the 2nd day. Nice to have a roomful of projects needing attention!
ReplyDeleteHave fun snipping away!!
I know just what you mean. I have a piece of french fabric I bought in 1993 and I just can't cut into it. Thanks for the inspiration, I am running for the scissors tonight! We have you beat by 8 days. We had an early snow last Sunday and I was sad to see the last of it go yesterday. Oh well, it just makes room for more. Have fun in the sewing room as it snows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful fabric! I know it will look wonderful in the graduation quilt. Thanks for mentioning the pencils you use for marking, they sound great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric. Love the quilting pattern too.
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is beautiful! How lovely that you get to use it for a special project.:)
