A start with so many more blocks to go... |
This isn't the final arrangement - just showing you the blocks I have done so far. I am trying to keep the fabrics on the masculine side. As you can see there are some solid blocks that require no piecing. I'm estimating about 100 blocks so I am about 1/10th of a way there. Surely there will be some rejects.
I've also selected some prints with special meaning. Conversational prints with a bike and a turtle. One print from dad's shirt so I will need to come up with something from me too.
Wish me luck! Have a great week!

Dawn it is going to be a wonderful quilt judging by the start.
ReplyDeleteDestined for heirloom status!
ReplyDeleteInteresting how the different fabrics fussy cut are making such interesting designs. The middle block in the top of the picture looks like big lips pursed open. I like the idea that you are using fabrics with special meaning.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck---one tenth of the way is really a fine start!! What a special person this must be going to.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt and colours for a male and such fun to prepare the blocks - you won't get bored with this one! I look forward to seeing it grow :)
ReplyDeleteI think you'll really enjoy making these blocks, especially if you're including special fabrics with meanings. I'm impressed that you are machine piecing them, there's a lot of Yseams.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be beautiful! I keep saying I will make a quilt like this. Someday maybe.
ReplyDeleteI recently finished making the same pattern and it's ready to quilt. Mine is done in mostly 1800's era reproductions and I also put in ones that have a special meaning like Downton Abbey, the Eiffel Tower, Queen Victoria, Louisa May Alcott, etc. It's so fun fussy cutting the prints and then watching them come together as a design. Mine is English paper pieced as I enjoy hand stitching so much. Yours is looking great!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your having fun playing with fabrics and finding just the right ones. It will be a lovely gift for a special occasion.
ReplyDeleteI like the variety in the piecing. So interesting to study.
ReplyDeleteMust be a VERY special graduation! : )
So fun that you will used some fabric from Dad's shirt and yourself. Great idea. How big are the hexies? Love the fuzzy cut stars.
