My First New Projects of 2012

I joined Jeanneke and so many others "Building Houses From Scraps"

I know I won't be able to do a house a day, but I'll get several done.  How many is several?  Only time will tell!

They finish at 3" so very small and sweet.  Easy to pull fabric from the scrap basket.  I machine pieced mine and will trim it up later.

Some fireworks in the night sky...I love a house with a red door...lace curtains with a butterfly...

I also decided to do the 12 Days of Christmas from The Temecula Quilt Company.

I have the first 7 done.

I might re-do number 5 - the center is from printed patchwork and the blue inside edge is bothering me.  My fabrics/my cutting - not the kit available for purchase.

I'm heading off to do block 8....

I said I wasn't starting something new this month and did - how about you?
Have a great week!

  1. You might also like the JUst Takes 2 from Gay at Sentimental Stitches. It's red & white blocks. I have the patterns but haven't made any of them yet. This also includes the ones you have.

  3. Love the house block! Such pretty colors! Love your 12 Days of Christmas blocks too! I've been tempted to try that one too, but I haven't. lol! Haven't touched a needle in 2012 yet. Too busy making Chinese dumplings from scratch and watching a movie with my kids. :D

  4. You're off to a great start. I know I can't commit myself to 365 little house blocks, but maybe fewer, larger houses. This seems to be the year of house blocks. They're all over.
I've also fallen to the temptation of the Temecula blocks. Twelve little ones in 12 days is doable. Yes, you're off to a great start, and I'll be right behind you.

  6. I love the little blocks. I still work full time and don't always have a lot of time to sew, so these are perfect. I love the fabric in your "12 days of Christmas" blocks. I would like the little houses if they were paper pieced.

Just found another one BOM "Hello Sun"

  7. I have a theory that starting something new from your scrap box is not the same as buying more fabric to start something new. At least that's what I told myself when I started something new this weekend. I joined the house block thing, too. Haven't made one yet though. How did you get the button on your blog? I haven't been able to figure that out.

  9. A House a day is pretty ambitious. But they sure are cute.

  13. I love your little house - it's just so cheerful! After quilting Nearly Insane, I don't want to quilt another with tiny blocks and lots of seams so I'm not making this one. I'm going to do Another Year of Schnibbles. (Okay, they're little, too. I admit it.) I kept meaning to do them last year and just never got started but I have my first fabrics picked and the pattern is posted. I 'plan' to start this afternoon. I only have one thing to put together first so it may really happen.

  14. Love the extra touches to your house block. The blocks are so small! Still on the fence as to whether I will join in. I'm already behind!
I started a basket quilt yesterday. It took me a few attempts to get the handle right but I'm happy with the final block.

  15. I love a red door, too. That is one of our 'to dos' for this year - paint our door red *s*
I'm already behind again on the block a day - maybe tomorrow I'll catch up again.
