The Red Room

I love a room with red walls.  I decided in this house it would be the laundry room.  We replaced the floors and painted this room before the moving company delivered.  It was a luxury to start with an empty room.

I've now been able to add some of my red and white textiles.
The rods are Umbra Swing Arm curtain rods.  I use them to hang coat hangers for some 'hang to dry' items, but also some of the quilts.

This room does not have a window so I have little worry about sun fading and will also swap out the textiles.

Above the plug in is a little vintage crochet hat pin cushion.
I put some vintage pieces on the bracket end of the rods for visual interest.

This is Looking in the opposite direction, the door from the garage.

The Little VIV (Vortex in Variation) is our new pattern - Click HERE.  It's lightly pinned to the wall with tiny applique pins so I can easily take it down.

There are a couple of the redwork samplers in the room.  I love these and have left room to add more to the collection.

The samplers were used when teaching/learning various sewing techniques.

This one has mending in the lower left corner.

Besides the utility (upper right) of button holes and hems, there are beautiful flowers, feather stitches and a monogram.

This one has a ruffle.  It has hanging loops and is filled from top to bottom with techniques.

Here is a closeup of the top band.

This is the other side of the hall tree.  My little quilt from Annie.  So Annie, thanks for keeping me company during laundry!

The vintage kitchen towel was a find my SIL shared with me.  The maker did some embroidery, applique and finished it all off with binding around the entire towel.

The little crochet reticule bag was a vintage find.  It is comprised of very tight small single crochet stitches.

The red fabric is a reproduction Documentary Design (Authorized Adaptation Alsace 1830) from the Musee Des Arts Decoratifs, Paris.  Done by Brunschwig and Fils in 1983.
I only have a yard, and will never cut it - so I have it out to enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed the laundry room tour.
Do you have a red room?

Love your red laundry room! My red room is the "salsa" bathroom--the powder room off the main hall. Great color, much like yours. The painters thought I was crazy but guests love it!

Oh my gosh, Dawn - this is wonderful! Red is my favorite (the outside of my house is red) and then when you add all of your treasures - it is yummy! My husband would have a heart attack if I painted a room red!

Quilts and needlework in the laundry room. A very good idea. I have a stenciled border in mine that has quilts hanging from a clothesline. Nothing so elegant as yours.

I don't have a red room, but I enjoyed seeing yours. What a great way to display all those red and white treasures! I love a fresh coat of paint.

Oh my! What a happy place to do laundry *s*
I used to have a red room - well, half a red room anyway. I painted two walls a neutral color in a flat paint. Then stenciled flags and stars in the same neutral in a high gloss finish. The remaining two walls were painted in a barn red flat finish. Then I measured, marked and taped off 6" floor to ceiling stripes that were painted in the same red high gloss. *ta da* it was my 'Americana' room. Oh the coats it took to cover that over when we got ready to sell ;-)

Your laundry room is charming -- that hall tree is gorgeous! The outside of my house is red, and so is my dining room :)

Sweet, beautiful things to have in a room where one has to do daily ordinary chores. We can understand why quilts and handwork were so important to women years ago when they lead lives of such hardship.

What a fun laundry room. I love all the treasures on the walls!
I can assure you that I will never post photos of mine. It is the most unfinished room in the house.
My sister-in-law loves purple, so she made her laundry room purple and yellow. She loves to go in and do laundry.

I just love it. I think I see a red laundry in my future.....thanks, for sharing. And I will be checking Etsy for that smaller vortex pattern.......I love it too!!!!!
