Well...except for the border.
How can a 3" border be so hard to select?
The green is probably the closest to the original.
The red is nice.
The yellow is a beautiful print.
I'm reverse sewing the binding on my Hindeloopen quilt.
Once I read the antique quilts of this type generally are knife edge finishes, I had to change it.
I thought about it and it bothered me, so off it comes.
Back to the border - which fabric would you use?
I'm looking forward to what you have to say!

ReplyDeleteIf I was going for replication, I'd use the green. If I was going with what clicks for me, I'd use the red. I think the yellow is a beautiful print, but it steals the show, IMHO. Great looking little quilt.

Knife Edge: Fold the raw edges under and hand stitch. I have a couple antique quilts that are finished with this technique.

Okay, I'm going with the consensus - the green is closest to the photo in the book - but I really like the red. I love this quilt!!! What size are the blocks? May have to make this one, just from seeing yours!

I really like the red too. I guess it depends on how close you want to stay to the original. The green works also, but I like the red.

ReplyDeleteI choose yellow. It is such a great compliment that looking at the photo only before reading what you had written, I thought it was the only choice there. The yellow brings out the yellows and other colors in the quilt center.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at the same quilt book and recognized your piece. In my opinion the yellow has the same feel as the original quilt.
Ok, this is strange, because red is my favorite color, so you would think that would be my choice, but...I like the green the best!

ReplyDeleteI vote for the yellow - I think it will correspond nicely with the yellow in the center star (and set it off), plus I'm partial to Den Haan chintzes :-)

ReplyDeleteThe yellow is such an interesting fabric but the red grabs me more. The dark piece more like what is in the picture but also a bit more boring. But a lot going on in the main body of the quilt.

You've already had lots of comments but I'll throw in my 2 cents. The one of the left (it looks brown on my monitor but it's probably the one you're referring to as green?) almost disappears which, in my opinion is great because it sets off the center of the quilt so we focus on it. My next choice would be the red because it goes well with the center. The yellow, imho, is too strong. Looking forward to seeing what you choose!

ReplyDeleteIs that on the left a green? It seems like a brown to me. Anyway,looking at the picture I would say that fabric on the lefthand side works best, although - if I were not to follow the original pattern to the letter - I would put a small border (0.5 - 0.75" , depending on the size of the quilt and the larger border) on it first. I do not have the book yet, but I don't think (looking at the picture) that is according to the pattern.

ReplyDeleteI think the red really brightens up the quilt but I also think it takes some of the attention away from the center so I think I would go with the brown/green.
ReplyDeleteI would personally choose the green/brown like the original because it frames the multicolor center better without adding another strong color. It's strange because my first choice was the yellow one!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to red so I'd pick it. As long as the red is period appropriate, the quilt doesn't have to be identical to the original. Your quilt is lovely!

ReplyDeleteThis is a busy quilt and even if both the red and the yellow are beautiful fabrics too, I would chose the green.

ReplyDeleteI'm slow reading blogs of late so I bet you have that border on already, would have gone with the green. Really hoping that the fires are not too close, sad to see the Royal Gorge with fires that close and see the homes lost in other parts of CO, even lives may have been lost from what news I can get here.
